Here we explain the database capabilities provided by FieldOne.
See Database - Customize Your Own for what to do if you wish to work from your own in-house database.
Note: one of the efficiencies of design in FieldOne is Server-side Search, which adds speed for companies with large databases of items like Customers and Job Sites. What this means is that the heavy-duty search function runs on the Server component of the application, rather than on the Client side.
Using the database provided by FieldOne:
FieldOne provides an internal database, using the most popular and robust database platform: Microsoft SQL Server®. When you run the FieldOne Setup Wizard (from the download file) using the default settings, it will install the Express edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
This "internal" database server will normally perform well if there are about 20 concurrent users at any given time. However, the number of concurrent users for the actual FieldOne application can easily and seamlessly exceed 20, because of its carefully designed structure.
FieldOne uses a multi-tiered approach that allows more clients connected to the application server than just those who are connected to the database server. The database server is only open while a user is actually posting to the database. This operation typically takes less than a second, and afterwards the connection is immediately closed. In addition, many other interactions within the application do not even require an open connection to the database server.
Thus, the design allows the number of concurrent users for FieldOne to be much larger than 20. However, the actual performing workload will differ depending on other factors as well.
